Description: In this training we will explore trauma-informed techniques for preventing, managing and debriefing difficult interactions. We will begin by reviewing how experiences of trauma may impact emotional and behavioral regulation. Then we will explore specific techniques for preventing and addressing trauma reactions in the workplace. We will practice strategies to de-escalate difficult encounters, enhance self-regulation, and create opportunities to develop resilience.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the effects of trauma on emotional and behavioral regulation
2. Demonstrate at least three prevention strategies
3. Demonstrate at least three strategies for managing challenging behavior
4. Describe the process of supportive debriefing
The target audience for this training includes substance use harm reduction, recovery, housing/homelessness, and treatment staff, recovery coaches, recovery specialists, and other clinical and non-clinical professionals providing substance use services.
