Training Description:

Join us to learn about the new Toolkit for professionals, covering key concepts of youth and young adult substance use and how to help young people who may be struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. This toolkit consists of 2 volumes.  In Volume 1 of the toolkit, we will focus on understanding youth and young adult substance use, signs and symptoms, screening and assessment, emerging trends in Massachusetts for young people, engaging in meaningful conversations to support youth and young adults around substance use, and how to access substance use treatment, supports, and family recovery resources. In Volume 2, we will highlight important information for professionals that include the impact of substance use on youth and young adult brain development, challenges and barriers to youth and young adult substance use treatment, best practices for referrals, trauma-informed care for youth and young adults in substance use treatment, and how to involve families and community stakeholders to support young people in recovery.  Furthermore, the training offers resources to enhance knowledge of these subject areas and will also review IHR's Youth and Young Adult Training Team services, including in-person and virtual trainings, technical assistance, and online trainings.

Objectives: Participants will be able to...

· Learn foundational knowledge on youth and young adult substance use treatment and the identified key concepts.

· Support staff in addressing co-occurring disorders

· Strengthen the capacity of agencies to support youth and families in recovery.

· Identify best practices when working with young people and families

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS:

2.00 hours of Continuing Education will be offered for Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors, (LADC I, LADCII, and LADC Assistants), Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAC/CADC), and Nurses (RN/LPN).

2.00 hours of Continuing Education for Social Work (SW).  Attendees must have their camera on for the training, as well as participate in all breakout sessions.

2.00 hours of Continuing Education will be offered for Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs), all continuing education for LMHCs in MA must be approved by a recognized entity, NBCC, National Board of Certified Counselors is recognized by the MA Division of Professional Licensure Board of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions.

AdCare Educational Institute, Inc., is recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors (NCC). AdCare Educational Institute, Inc. is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEPTM) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.
