What is the Nurturing Program?
The Nurturing Program for Families in Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery is a transformative curriculum that guides participants on their journeys in both recovery from Substance Use Disorders and in improving their parenting skills and relationships with their children.
Through interactive exercises, the Nurturing Program helps parents be curious about and reflect on their own thoughts, feelings and intentions—and those of their children. This enhances parents’ self-awareness—thereby deepening their ability to connect with their children.
How does the Nurturing Program work?
An interactive, engaging curriculum of 17 sessions that supports people in recovery to:
- Explore their own histories.
- Understand forces affecting their families.
- Build skills to help their families recover.
What is the Nurturing Program Facilitator’s Training?
- Comprehensive, three-day training.
- Interactive, experiential activities and games to demonstrate the Nurturing Program.
- For staff and volunteers that want to facilitate the Nurturing Program in their own organization or community.
Plus, two 90-minute follow-up sessions 2 and 4 months after initial training. These sessions will provide targeted guidance on sharpening facilitation skills, deepening understanding of the group process and how to foster cohesion and overcoming potential barriers to running the NP group in your community.
What do participants learn from the Nurturing Program training?
“That joy and fun can be part of recovery. I feel hopeful about integrating this into my clinical practice/work.”
