Many people who use tobacco/nicotine products say they are not interested in addressing their nicotine addiction because smoking (or vaping) is a way to deal with stress. Despite the perception that tobacco/nicotine use helps lessen stress, we know that smoking/vaping contributes to an increase in physical, behavioral, and emotional stress. Helping people learn a broad range of coping skills not only improves mental health outcomes and supports long-term recovery from other substance use,  but it can also begin to increase a person's confidence in their ability to quit smoking (or vaping) someday. This webinar will explore stress and its impact on those with mental health and substance use disorders. We will discuss how to help patients and clients develop alternative healthy coping skills as they navigate treatment and recovery.
