Vaping and nicotine dependence among youth and young adults with behavioral health conditions is widespread and often overlooked as a treatment issue. This 2-hour live, virtual training explores the evolving landscape of nicotine vaping products, current trends in use, and the unique challenges in addressing nicotine dependence with this population. The training examines the known health consequences of vaping nicotine, its impact on mental health conditions, and the effects of using multiple tobacco and nicotine products.
Participants will gain practical tools for assessing nicotine dependence and readiness to change and will learn evidence-based treatment approaches for working with youth and young adults across different stages of change. Small group breakout sessions will give participants the opportunity to apply learning to case examples.
Target Audience: This training will benefit any staff member working with youth or young adults in treatment for or recovering from substance use disorders and mental health conditions, including counselors, case managers, clinicians, supervisors, program or clinical directors, nurses, and recovery coaches.
