This training provides participants with a comprehensive overview of professional boundaries
and ethical practice within behavioral health settings, with a focus on supporting youth and
young adults. Participants will explore the foundation of ethical decision-making, including the
differences between boundary crossings and violations, and the role of professional
responsibility in maintaining safe and effective helping relationships.
The training integrates trauma-informed and recovery-oriented frameworks to highlight how
trauma and substance use can impact client behavior, engagement, and relational dynamics.
Participants will examine how trauma histories, emotional responses, and coping strategies may
influence boundary challenges in practice.
Throughout the training, emphasis is placed on the role of cultural competence, identity, and
systemic factors in shaping both client experiences and practitioner decision-making. Topics
such as power, privilege, bias, and the use of self including appropriate self-disclosure and lived
experience are explored to support culturally responsive and ethical care.
Additional focus is given to the importance of supervision, accountability, and ethical use of
social media in maintaining professional boundaries in modern practice. Participants will engage
in reflection and case-based discussion to apply concepts in real-world scenarios.
By the conclusion of the training, participants will be equipped with practical strategies to
uphold ethical standards, maintain appropriate boundaries, and promote safe, respectful, and
trauma-informed interactions across diverse practice settings.
