These training modules have been developed by the Institute for Health & Recovery with funding provided by Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Addiction Services.

Description

This training provides participants with a understanding of trauma and its impact on youth and young adult development, including social, emotional, and cognitive domains. We will explore the relationship between trauma and substance use, as well as the emotional and behavioral traits often displayed by individuals who have experienced traumatic events.

Participants will be introduced to a case study featuring a youth with multiple intersectional identities. Throughout the training, this case study will be revisited as new information is presented, allowing participants to apply the six guiding principles of trauma-informed care in real time. Emphasis will be placed on culturally affirming, inclusive practices that acknowledge and address the influence of systemic oppression, historical trauma, and identity.

By the conclusion of the training, participants will be equipped with practical, trauma-informed strategies to enhance safety, understanding, trust, and emotional regulation for the youth they serve.
