Description
In this self-paced module, we will explore ways to empower youth voice through identifying key principles in trauma informed care practices and supporting youth in identity affirming care. The training starts by exploring some key challenges when supporting young people and increasing awareness of staff bias, that may impact engagement. The training then explores how to create a safe environment to support engagement. Key concepts of Motivational interviewing will be explored and applied throughout.
Audience
This training is ideal for staff in all settings who support youth and young adults who have been impacted by substance use. Previous experience or education in trauma informed care practices can aid in learning experience, although not required. Objectives
- Identify at least 2 core principles of trauma-informed care for youth.
- Describe at least two relational strategies that build trust and reduce resistance to support.
- Identify 2 key functions of Motivational Interviewing that support youth-centered care.
- Reflect on at least one way your own role in helping youth feel seen, respected, and empowered.
