IHR’s Tobacco staff has helped substance use and mental health treatment programs in Massachusetts address tobacco dependence in treatment and recovery through consultation, technical assistance, and training since 1994. IHR’s Tobacco team uses evidence-based approaches to help staff to understand nicotine addiction and its impact on overall health and recovery, teaching smoking cessation strategies and helping staff to integrate tobacco education in treatment. Additionally, IHR promotes the integration of secondhand smoke awareness and tobacco cessation resources into home visits and other services for at-risk families.
