The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR), in partnership with Malden High School, provides diversion, intervention, and treatment services for Malden High School students at risk for, or experiencing, substance use concerns and/or co-occurring mental health needs.
The program helps reduce barriers to substance use and mental health support and connects students with services tailored to their individual needs, provided wherever students feel most comfortable- in school, at home, or in the community.
Three Key Services
Diversion: 4–5 hours of individual or group education addressing addiction, substance effects, industry tactics, triggers, and healthy goal-setting.
Project Amp: A 4–6 session mentoring program focused on resiliency, positive social supports, leadership, and self-efficacy.
A-CRA: A 16–20 session individualized treatment program that enhances prosocial and coping skills for youth experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges, with support for caregivers and families, as needed.
The Malden SAFE staff meet Malden High students where they’re at to provide youth-centered support through individualized intervention as well as collaboration with Malden High personnel and others involved in the youth’s care, including families and other professionals, as needed. Services are provided year-round.
Funded through the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services.
