Project Promise

Project Promise

Project Promise, a five day per week treatment program for pregnant and parenting people affected by Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders, was originally designed by IHR and funded by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in 2017. Through the end of federal funding in 2021, the program served 136 pregnant and postpartum women and their children birth through three years of age, providing them with basic needs (food, clothing, diapers), recovery support and intensive counseling (daily groups and/or individual counseling), and parenting coaching and support, including visits at home and in the community by trained therapists and a Peer Recovery Mentor. Project Promise participants receive nurturing support as they navigate their own individual roads to recovery.

Project Promise continues with the generous support of the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services, MA Department of Public Health, and with support from MassHealth and other third-party payers reimbursing for clinical services. Promise works with pregnant and parenting people to support their recovery and healthy parenting, celebrating their accomplishments throughout the course of their participation. Promise is now working in a hybrid model post COVID, providing group and individual counseling both live/in person (in Mattapan) and via telehealth.

Funder: BSAS and third party payers.

Area served: Boston, Mass.
