Weaving Work And Recovery
- Pre-Vocational and Vocational Issues in Treatment: Employment can moderate the occurrence and severity of relapse to addiction. This training will assist the gradual integration of work-related skills and tasks into residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment settings as clients prepare for eventual economic self-sufficiency. Prior workforce development experience is not required to benefit from this training.
- Resumes for Women with Poor Work Histories: While many women in treatment have a wide range of work experience, some women have never had a job outside of the home or prepared a resume. Resume formats are presented that address gaps in work histories while emphasizing a job applicant's skills.
- Job Search Strategies: The most effective jobseekers use at least four job search strategies. In a competitive market and high unemployment, it is crucial to be as creative and determined as possible to get the job. Maintaining recovery during this stressful time may require extra support. Labor market research will be shared for your geographic area, including a description of higher paying entry level jobs.
- Substance Abuse, Criminal Records, Credit Histories and Interviewing: Preparing for difficult interview questions can build a woman's confidence when she finally meets the interviewer. Guidance around the disclosure of difficult life experiences is offered in this session.
- Job Retention and Relapse Prevention: Many of the "soft" skills necessary for recovery are necessary to retain a job and obtain a promotion: dependability, flexibility, initiative, perseverance, problem-solving, etc. An easy formula will be presented that women will be able to personalize and use to get the job and keep the job.
- Linkages to Community Resources: Building relationships with local workforce development agencies, GED programs, community colleges, and Transitional Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) agencies will benefit clients and staff. Current TANF work requirements for your state will be included in this session.
