YARD Project

The YARD Project is a collaboration of the Institute for Health and Recovery, the Gavin Foundation and the Massachusetts Organization for Addiction and Recovery, funded by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration/Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, to serve young adults, ages 18–24, in recovery from substance use. This project, located in South Boston, offers a variety of services and activities to assist young adults at all stages of treatment and recovery. YARD works to create a safe and empowering community that can also include young adults not necessarily in recovery, but who seek sober peer groups and activities.

The YARD Project's Recovery Clinicians provide a breadth of assistance: engaging potential participants through active outreach and referrals to conducting an assessment of a person's goals and needs.  Services offered can include: Individual counseling, relapse prevention, group counseling, home and community based services, case management, education and employment assistance, and services linkage and referrals. Recovery Clinicians will utilize evidence-based interventions such as Assertive Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA) coupled with Assertive Continuing Care (ACC). YARD will also host groups, workshops, speakers, and classes helpful to recovery.  YARD will include peer mentoring and support activities including Recovery Coaches.

The YARD Project is staffed by a master's level Project Coordinator and two full-time licensed Recovery Clinicians. Trained peer mentors and Recovery Coaches will collaborate with YARD staff. Advocates for Human Potential, located in Sudbury, Mass., are project evaluators.
