WELL Child Groups

Children’s groups offered at Project WAVE (Link to Project WAVE) and at FLT (link to FLT) utilize the WELL Child curriculum. These groups provide a nurturing, safe, and predictable environment in which children’s feelings and experiences can be validated, and ideas can be explored. WELL Child groups were designed to demonstrate respect and understanding, model positive behavior, provide age-appropriate information, and assist children in learning safety planning. The model allows children to choose self-control, build self-esteem and confidence, and develop emotional and behavioral strengths and competencies through modeling, discussion, education, and expression (Peled & Davis). The WELL Child curriculum is culturally and linguistically sensitive, designed to understand and embrace differences among group participants. Primary goals of the group include: learning self-protection skills, developing skill in self-soothing, enhancing interpersonal relationships, and strengthening self-esteem and self identity. The WELL Child curriculum includes 9 sessions, with 2 follow-up booster sessions.
