Suffolk County Adolescent Project

The SCAP Project is a county-wide capacity building initiative designed to increase the capacity of state agencies, treatment providers, the juvenile justice system, schools, and communities to address adolescent substance use issues. Funded by the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services, SCAP was instrumental in helping Dimock Community Health Center and North Suffolk Mental Health Association develop intensive outpatient addiction programs, and continues to support them around this. SCAP also co-facilitates psycho educational and parent support groups, using a train the trainer model in multiple settings throughout Suffolk County. In addition, SCAP offers "Substance Abuse 101” workshops to staff and peer leaders working with youth. SCAP staff also serve as community liaisons and help educate parents and community programs about available substance use treatment resources. SCAP staff are involved with numerous coalitions such as Revere Cares and Project Right in order to work toward additional community services around adolescent substance use issues. Most recently, SCAP has been able to introduce a Wellness Program, designed to enhance existing adolescent substance use treatment services.
